About the 1948 MG TC

The MG TC of the Morris Garages was the first foreign sports car imported in significant quantities to the U.S.  Starting with the return of American soldiers from duty in England in 1945, over 2,000 MG TCs were officially im-ported through 1949 even though they were all right-hand drive.  The T-series was the most popular sports car of the many MG had de-signed at the time.  As post-war production re-started in 1945, the MG TC was nearly identical in design and construction with the pre-war 1936 through 1939 TA  and TBs.

Sheet metal and other raw materials were in short supply in England and rationed to those com-panies that exported their products and generated much needed foreign exchange.  By 1949, 10,000 MG TCs were built.

The two-seater roadster started a sports car boom in the U.S. and made a disproportionately large contribution to the start of road racing in the U.S. as well.  Many famous American drivers got their start with a TC, among them being Phil Hill and Carroll Shelby.
